MRC Literacy Tutor
Minnesota Reading Corps is a statewide program to help every Minnesota child become a successful reader. The program matches trained AmeriCorps members and community volunteers with children from age 3 to grade 3 who need an extra boost to catch up with their peers.
Nearly 75% of Reading Corps third graders who successfully completed the program passed their state reading exams. Given that none of these students were on track to pass, this demonstrates remarkable progress for children who might otherwise have been left behind.
Minnesota Reading Corps members have tutored more than 25,000 preschool and elementary school children since the program was introduced in 2003.
More than 600 Minnesota Reading Corps tutors are serving in more than 400 schools across Minnesota
Minnesota Reading Corps members are recent college graduates, parents re-entering the workplace, career changers, and retirees.
