Welcome to Northome School

New CDL Class and ATS truck driving simulator coming to Northome School!

A Commercial Driving License (CDL) Class is coming to Northome School during the 2025-2026 school year! Northome School is really excited to be offering a class called "On the Road to a CDL". The class will be offered to Northome students who will be 17 years of age by December 30th of 2025 and hold either a valid Minnesota Driver's License or Instructional Permit. This class will be a year-long class and will focus on classroom instruction, discussion, guest speakers and hands-on driving experience, using a state of the art ATS Truck Driving Simulator. Northome School will be sending an instructor to a "Train the Trainer" event in June that will be held at Patterson High School in California. A huge benefit of this program will be cost savings for our students and their families. On average, attending a typical Truck Driving School will cost students between $5,000-$7,000 dollars. Over the summer, Northome School will be accepting current Northome Students and also Open Enrolled students who would like to attend this amazing class. (see link button on the left) It will be very similar to the one offered by Patterson High School. If you know of a student that would be interested, please contact Northome School to enroll at 218-897-5275.

We just wrapped up our first session of the Wild West Summer Learning Academy—and what a great start to the summer! This week, we focused on reading and our students stayed busy with hands-on learning, storytelling, and outdoor adventures.

- Mrs. Robson’s group made playdough from scratch and shaped it into their own cactuses! They also worked through STEAM stations and practiced key reading skills.
- Ms. Breanna’s and Mr. Boser’s groups became young authors—writing original cowboy stories and sharing them during lunch for all to enjoy!
- Mrs. Bolhuis’s groups explored stories about pioneer towns and inspiring Native American individuals. They also conducted a science experiment to make homemade butter!

Calvin Howard, our Indigenous Studies Coordinator, visited each group to share a Native American summer story and teach a few Ojibwe Words of the Day, honoring cultural traditions.

To round out the week, all K–8 students took a trip to the Lost 40 for a Reading Rodeo, where they were challenged to read as many pages as they could while enjoying the wilderness.

We’ll be back in action for Session Two on July 14–17 and July 21–24! We can’t wait to wrangle everyone back together!

Summer is here, but our Mustangs are still in action! 16U Baseball played a double-header in Blackduck last night, and while they lost both games, they stayed competitive and keep working to improve skills.

Northome School's Trap Team competed at the State Shoot in Alexandria on Monday, June 9th. The weather may not have been ideal, but the kids did great! It's a fun atmosphere and an awesome opportunity for the team.
Congratulations go out to Kaden Elhard on his impressive showing with a total score of 95/100 (including 2 perfect rounds of 25/25)! He finished the day in 3rd place out of a total of almost 900 class 1A shooters. He was tied at 95 with 4 other shooters but had the longest reverse run (39 clays in a row counting backwards from the final clay) to clinch 3rd place. Well done, Kaden, on a stellar ending to your Trap Team career!
A huge thank you goes out to all the loved ones that supported the team throughout the season, drove the kids to weekly shoots, shared the love of the sport with them, and showed up to cheer them on in Alexandria.
Congratulations to all the team members that endured the chilly winds to finish out another trap season shattering clays and having fun!
