Welcome to Northome School

New CDL Class and ATS truck driving simulator coming to Northome School!

A Commercial Driving License (CDL) Class is coming to Northome School during the 2025-2026 school year! Northome School is really excited to be offering a class called "On the Road to a CDL". The class will be offered to Northome students who will be 17 years of age by December 30th of 2025 and hold either a valid Minnesota Driver's License or Instructional Permit. This class will be a year-long class and will focus on classroom instruction, discussion, guest speakers and hands-on driving experience, using a state of the art ATS Truck Driving Simulator. Northome School will be sending an instructor to a "Train the Trainer" event in June that will be held at Patterson High School in California. A huge benefit of this program will be cost savings for our students and their families. On average, attending a typical Truck Driving School will cost students between $5,000-$7,000 dollars. Over the summer, Northome School will be accepting current Northome Students and also Open Enrolled students who would like to attend this amazing class. (see link button on the left) It will be very similar to the one offered by Patterson High School. If you know of a student that would be interested, please contact Northome School to enroll at 218-897-5275.

Howdy Partners,

We’ve officially rounded up the final week of our 2025 Summer Learning Academy here at Northome School, and what a ride it’s been. This week’s theme was the “Wild West Wellness Round-Up,” where students focused on building mental health tools and practicing Social-Emotional Learning (SEL) skills.

Here’s a look at what each group was up to:
- Mrs. Robson’s group practiced the “Rose, Bud, Thorn” reflection strategy to talk about their highs, lows, and hopes.
- Ms. Breanna’s group got hands-on with science s’mores and created positive thought posters to spread some good energy.
- Mr. Boser’s group played a lively “Lasso Your Friend” game and learned about the Wellness Wheel to understand balance in life.
- Mrs. Bolhuis’s group crafted homemade banjos, designed their own cattle brands, and explored conflict resolution strategies to keep their campfire conversations calm.

To wrap things up, the Summer School staff hosted our annual “Water Fun Afternoon” on the last day, featuring water balloons and a slip-n-slide to celebrate all their hard work after enjoying their Wagon Wheel Meal!

It was a great summer of growth, laughter, and learning. These students sure did wrangle their wisdom!

This week marked the return of our students for Session #2 of the 2025 Summer Learning Academy and what an exciting week it was!

Our focus this session was on building math and problem-solving skills through fun, hands-on activities:

- Mrs. Robson’s group explored “cowboy counting” and sorting activities, turning math into a Western adventure.
- Ms. Breanna’s group practiced real-world math using convenience store scenarios and word problems, and even became scientists for a day by making homemade ice cream!
- Mr. Noah’s group sharpened multiplication and division skills through cattle-counting challenges and wrapped up with a classic Oregon Trail board game.
- Mrs. Bolhuis’s group got creative and designed an exciting carnival experience for our younger learners!

To cap off the week, we ventured to Paul Bunyan Animal Land in Bemidji, MN, where students had the chance to learn about and feed a variety of species. It was an unforgettable, hands-on experience! Afterward, everyone enjoyed some free play at Northome City Park.

Next week will be the grand finale of our Summer Learning Academy, so stay tuned for our closing recap!
