New CDL Class and ATS truck driving simulator coming to Northome School!

A Commercial Driving License (CDL) Class is coming to Northome School during the 2025-2026 school year! Northome School is really excited to be offering a class called "On the Road to a CDL". The class will be offered to Northome students who will be 17 years of age by December 30th of 2025 and hold either a valid Minnesota Driver's License or Instructional Permit. This class will be a year-long class and will focus on classroom instruction, discussion, guest speakers and hands-on driving experience, using a state of the art ATS Truck Driving Simulator. Northome School will be sending an instructor to a "Train the Trainer" event in June that will be held at Patterson High School in California. A huge benefit of this program will be cost savings for our students and their families. On average, attending a typical Truck Driving School will cost students between $5,000-$7,000 dollars. Over the summer, Northome School will be accepting current Northome Students and also Open Enrolled students who would like to attend this amazing class. (see link button on the left) It will be very similar to the one offered by Patterson High School. If you know of a student that would be interested, please contact Northome School to enroll at 218-897-5275.

Information for Families: Head Lice Prevention Tips

Dear Parents and Guardians,

We want to share some helpful information about preventing head lice in school. Head lice are common among children and can be inconvenient, but they do not spread disease and can be managed effectively with simple precautions. Lice spread through close head-to-head contact or by sharing personal items such as hats, brushes, combs, or headphones. They do not spread through classrooms, carpets, or furniture.

To support a healthy learning environment for all students in grades PreK–6, our school uses the following everyday prevention strategies:

• Providing space between desks and chairs to limit shoulder-to-shoulder contact
• Ensuring students hang coats and hats separately, rather than in piles
• Encouraging extra space while students line up, walk in hallways, or transition between classes
• Reducing close-contact games (such as wrestling) during times when cases are more common
• Limiting shared head-gear (earphones, helmets, drama hats/costumes) and vacuuming these items between uses
• Offering age-appropriate reminders to students about not sharing brushes, combs, hats, headbands, or clothing

These same prevention steps are helpful at home as well. Families can support their children by reminding them not to share personal items like brushes, combs, hats, or hair accessories, and by keeping any child currently being treated for lice from close head-to-head play or napping near others.

Our goal is to provide families with clear information—not alarm. Head lice are treatable, manageable, and preventable with consistent habits. If you ever have questions or need guidance, please feel free to contact the school health office.

Thank you for your partnership in keeping our school community healthy.
