What Seniors Need to Know and Do

As a Class:
September • Pick class motto, song, color, flower, yearbook dedication, etc.

•Elect class officers who will: take charge of planning the senior class trip, order class sweatshirts, organize baccalaureate team, organize graduation decoration team, run meetings. Elect officers seriously… people who will actually do stuff! It is a team effort. People who won’t do the work do not deserve to complain.

•Set aside $400 to print senior paper in color (if you want to), $200 for graduation (decorations and flowers), and about $800 for your sweatshirts. You can probably use the leftovers for your trip but beware of extra costs that may pop up.
October •Chose motto, song, color, flower, yearbook dedication which need to be turned in by now to yearbook advisor, Mrs. Wickum at lwickum@northome. k12.mn.us. Also, email a copy to the school secretary in the school office.
November •Make sure to take a senior class picture.

  •Apply for colleges!
December •Plan your door for the decorating contest.
January •Design and order sweatshirts.

•Start brainstorming ideas for and planning your class trip! (Try starting at least two months before you want to go on it.) You must go to a school board meeting about it at least a month beforehand.
February • Think of what you would like to do for the carnival
Decide if you wish to have senior video at graduation and choose someone to create it.

March • Order caps, stoles, and tassels (ask the secretary about best companies for this)

  • Choose speaker for graduation (Since it is Memorial Day weekend and many people have family plans, you may find your first choice cannot do it. You also do not have to pick a teacher. Think of all staff members, coaches and community leaders.)
April • Start planning baccalaureate; make a planning committee.

•Schedule date and time, make programs, talk to chosen church officials, pick readers.

  • Attend school board meeting before the trip so you have it approved!

  • Get class graduation party schedule so no two parties overlap.
May • Order flowers to hand out to parents at graduation.

  • Buy decorations for graduation.

  • For valedictorian and salutatorian, write speeches! You must submit them to the principal by Monday of graduation. Find time to practice using the sound system in the gym.

  • Weed school gardens in front of the building so they look nice for graduation.
