Welcome to Northome School
New CDL Class and ATS truck driving simulator coming to Northome School!
A Commercial Driving License (CDL) Class is coming to Northome School during the 2025-2026 school year! Northome School is really excited to be offering a class called "On the Road to a CDL". The class will be offered to Northome students who will be 17 years of age by December 30th of 2025 and hold either a valid Minnesota Driver's License or Instructional Permit. This class will be a year-long class and will focus on classroom instruction, discussion, guest speakers and hands-on driving experience, using a state of the art ATS Truck Driving Simulator. Northome School will be sending an instructor to a "Train the Trainer" event in June that will be held at Patterson High School in California. A huge benefit of this program will be cost savings for our students and their families. On average, attending a typical Truck Driving School will cost students between $5,000-$7,000 dollars. Over the summer, Northome School will be accepting current Northome Students and also Open Enrolled students who would like to attend this amazing class. (see link button on the left) It will be very similar to the one offered by Patterson High School. If you know of a student that would be interested, please contact Northome School to enroll at 218-897-5275.

Howdy y’all!
We kicked off our Wild West Summer Learning Academy for the June session—and what a rootin’-tootin’ great week it was!
This summer, students are wranglin’ wisdom in history, science, language, and math. Week 1 focused on history, diving into the Wild West era while also honoring Indigenous history.
Here’s what each group was up to:
- Mrs. Robson’s group learned about the Oregon Trail, made their own cowboy hats, and created playdough cactuses from scratch.
- Ms. Breanna’s group worked on their summer bucket lists, mapped out the Oregon Trail, and made their own tie-dye shirts.
- Mr. Noah’s group studied tornadoes, helped weed the school garden, and journaled about what life might have been like on the Oregon Trail.
- Mrs. Bolhuis’s group explored the world of Wild West trappers, hosted guest Kent Lindner from the DNR to learn about safe trapping gear and signs of wildlife, and presented their findings to the younger groups.
On Wednesday, we hosted another special guest to focus on student wellness, certified Yoga Instructor Maddi Oothoudt! Each group listened in on a special presentation from our Indigenous Studies Coordinator on the history of Wild Rice Harvesting!
We ended the week with a Boots, Beats, and History Dance Party dressing our best in our wild west!
It was a fun and productive week, and we’re ready to keep wranglin’ wisdom in the week ahead at Northome School!

Northome school is really excited to offer a CDL driving class for our High School students during the 2025-2026 school year!
Recently, Brian Dreher attended a “Train the Trainer” CDL class in Patterson, California. Many Thanks to Elaine Hoffman for providing Perkins dollars so Brian could attend.
A "Train the Trainer" CDL class refers to a course designed to equip individuals with the skills and knowledge to effectively train other CDL drivers. It focuses on the pedagogy of teaching CDL theory and practical driving skills, rather than just the CDL content itself.
Brian will be teaching our CDL class this fall here at Northome School. We can't wait for the new simulator to arrive, this is such an awesome opportunity for our students and community!
