Algebra: Syllabus

Class Content
In Algebra I, we will be working through the Saxon Algebra book. Each day we will work on a new Set. Periodically, we will spend a day learning supplemental material or puzzling our way through some applied problems.   There will be an assignment every day.
In general, students will have a test once a week (every 4 sets). Test cover Set 1 all the way up to 4 sets behind where we are in the text book.

Grading:
Test are 60% of the grade.
Notes, practice problems and Assignments are 40% of the grade.
Grading Scale:
90% and above =  A
80% - 90% =  B
70% - 80%  =  C
60% - 70%  =  D
59% and below  =  F

Due Dates and Late Work:
All assignments are due at the beginning of class the next day for full credit.
Late assignments are marked down 20%.
Assignments become a permanent zero in the grade book if they are not turned in within 3 days.

Extra Credit:  will only be given when all other assignments are completed to the best of your ability.  Extra credit assignments can not take the place of a regular required assignment.

Absences
If you are going to be absent from class due to a school related activity, it is your responsibility to get your assignment from me ahead of time and the due date will be the same as the rest of the class.

If you are absent due to sickness, you have two days to complete your missing work before they will be marked down as late.  The school's policies with regards to unexcused absences will be followed.

Extra Help:
In addition to individual help during class, I am available for extra help before school and after school if you make arrangements with me beforehand.  Tutor/Mentor and Catch Up are the other places to seek help.  If the concepts get difficult, it is best to get help as soon as possible ... as new concepts are based on the old and the difficulties will just get worse.
